Our College and University Group (CUG) held its first-ever 4-day retreat-style camp over the Hari Raya weekend at Radiant Retreats, Janda Baik. With the theme “Faith at Work,” the camp provided an opportunity for students to reflect on their personal faith and consider how it shapes their lives — both in their current studies and in their future as young adults entering the workforce.
I had the privilege of serving as the camp speaker, walking the group through five passages from Philippians across four talks and one Q&A session. Each session emphasised the centrality of the gospel and what it means to take ownership of our faith as we live it out in the world. The final session featured a Q&A panel, where four young adult facilitators responded to practical questions about applying these truths to work and everyday Christian living.
Of course, no camp is complete without games, fellowship, and good food. Each session began with ice-breakers; we had a main game on the second day, and the highlight of the third day was a wonderful barbeque prepared by the CUG members themselves. With many growing boys at the camp, the food disappeared rather quickly!
During quieter moments and free time, many CUG members engaged in meaningful fellowship – singing worship songs together, taking walks around the campsite, preparing late-night instant noodle snacks, writing notes of encouragement to one another, and even trying their hand at fishing.
As the camp ran over a Sunday, we also held a Sunday service following the prayer format of the Anglican Daily Office. This provided a valuable opportunity to introduce the group to the richness of historic Christian liturgy. Despite the many responsive readings – and the frequent standing and sitting – it was encouraging to see that they appreciated the experience.
Overall, I am deeply grateful to Celest and the committee members for organising the camp so excellently. Special thanks too to Eugene Loh and the other facilitators for enthusiastically embracing all the ideas that made this camp possible. CUG Camp 2026, “Faith at Work,” was truly a meaningful time of reflection, growth, and fellowship as we sought to deepen our relationship with God and with one another.
