A FEAST OF FUN, FOOD & FELLOWSHIP AT SENIORS’ CAMP

By Angela Tan

I joined JOY Camp 2026 (for seniors) in Teluk Intan with the hope of stepping away from the usual hustle and bustle of daily life. I thought it would be nice to spend unhurried moments with fellow brothers and sisters—times of learning, sharing, and simply being together.

The itinerary for the camp, held on March 10-12, was light and well-balanced, offering just the right mix of leisure, fun, and spiritual enrichment. The bus rides were pleasant, and the room was more spacious than expected, giving us plenty of comfort. Meals were thoughtfully chosen: simple and satisfying, with no excess or waste, just what we needed. The gala dinner, however, was a feast to remember—sumptuous and unforgettable. However, the evening’s highlight that left us all smiling was not food. It was the joyful performances of our organising committee and some campers.

Even more nourishing than the physical meals was the spiritual food we received under the theme “Finishing Well Joyfully.” We learned from speakers Dato’ George and Rev. Alexa that our later years can be beautifully and wonderfully fruitful, filled with meaning and enjoyment.

The cruise to Pulau Bangau, where we watched colourful birds at sunset, beautifully illustrated this truth. We captured the truth in a vivid way. Those who joined the ride returned with radiant smiles; it felt like the message had taken root in their hearts.

What stood out most for me at the camp was the gift of friendship—both new connections and deeper bonds with familiar faces. I noticed that many campers seemed more relaxed than usual, and laughter flowed freely around the meal tables. And there was a sense of ease among us all. Forgive me, dear new friends, for not yet remembering all your names, but the fragrance of your fellowship lingers long after the camp.

JOY Camp reminded me that when we step away from our routines and gather in Christ’s love, we taste something sweeter. And that sweetness continues, enriching our church life and reminding us that in Christ, we truly finish well—joyfully.
