Wikipedia has the following excerpt on our sister Annie Choong:
Annie Choong (born 20 February 1934) is a Malaysian sprinter. She competed in the women’s 100 metres at the 1956 Summer Olympics. She was the first woman to represent Malaysia at the Olympics.
On 16 February 2024, SS2 CG leader CY Choo and assistant leader Nga Hook Ming, together with their wives Kiam Koon and Magdalen, Deacon Johnny and I visited Annie at Summer Breeze Cottage Caring Home to celebrate her 90th birthday.
Staying in the home after her accident, she reminisced about the time when she could drive to church for the Sunday worship service. She thanked the church and especially Choo, Nga, Kiam Koon and Magdalen for visiting her regularly.
She expressed her thanks to God for providing everything she needed in the home and said that she really liked it there. “I love it here. It is a lovely place and I really feel good because they have a garden here. She pointed us to the birds’ chirping, which she enjoyed listening to. “I feel good and comfortable,” she said. She shared her favourite Bible verses, Psalm 23:1-2:
The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
Representing the church, Deacon Johnny presented a fruit basket, cake and birthday card to her. We had an excellent time of fellowship to celebrate Annie’s 90th birthday.
