I signed up for WMTF expecting practical teachings on integrating faith with work, but discovered it to be much more than that. It has helped me understand my identity as a child of God living through this part of my journey—an adult, a father, a husband, and a professional navigating financial and career experiences.
I have come to realise how my beliefs about work, money, achievement, and success have been largely shaped by worldly experiences, despite having a fair amount of God’s Word in my life. Racing to meet corporate goals and working endlessly to feel “safe,” though usually dreary and often dreadful, has become a mindless habit that my body deems acceptable.
WMTF offered a different perspective—one that enlightened me that God designed work to be good, delightful, and purposeful. He calls us to serve others with our talents, enjoy the fruits of our labour, and find contentment in our portion. Modern-day productivity can become idolatrous and imprisoning—neither of which are intended by, nor pleasing to, God.
Work and money, as I had known, existed as a form of security—my security and the best possible way of ensuring a brighter tomorrow, one which I could control. In doing so, I affirmed my lack of faith in God’s providence. I’ve since learned from the WMTF sessions that contentment and trust in God are among the true measures of success that I should be striving toward.
While I am far from being transformed and with my mind slightly renewed, I look forward to seeing things with these new lenses.
