TEAM-BUILDING: THERE’S PURPOSE IN THE FUN

By Tifena Tania

This year’s staff team-building reminded us of something far deeper than just a fun day out together. Our theme, Celebrating the Best in Us, pointed us not to our own accomplishments, talents, or personalities, but to the One who truly brings out the best in us – Christ Himself.

As a team, we work through challenges and responsibilities alongside one another and therefore see one our strengths and weaknesses up close. But that day’s team-building reminded us that our unity doesn’t rest on how capable we are or how well we perform. We are who we are because we belong to Christ, and it is Christ who shapes, strengthens, and unites us.

And of course, the day wouldn’t have been complete without the games! The Sotong Games were very creative, fun, and surprisingly meaningful. One game that struck me was the “escape room” where we had to solve a riddle about “the way (weigh), the truth, and the life” to unlock a token. On the table were candles and an apple, and naturally, we tried to weigh them and add up the numbers. But we overlooked the Bible, the very place where the truth and life is.

When the station master gave us a clue that we should weigh the Bible, it hit me that sometimes in life, we focus so much on what sustains us physically (like the apple), or what gives us temporary lights for our path (like the candles), and forget that God is the One who gives us true life, and Jesus is the Truth that holds everything together.

A big shoutout to our amazing facilitators – Hui Jun, Leon, Su Ann, and Sam Kong – for planning and leading such purposeful, fun games. Also, thank you to Chanice and the fellow worship team for preparing and serving so faithfully! Really grateful to be part of the PJEFC staff family.
