First, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Rev. Alexa and the PJEFC leadership for the opportunity to participate in the recent board retreat (September). As this was my first time attending a board retreat, I didn’t know what to expect and honestly had no specific expectations. However, in hindsight, approaching the retreat with an open mind allowed me to experience everything more fully. It was truly a refreshing and eye-opening time, and I deeply appreciated the opportunity to get to know the other board members on a more personal level.
One of the key takeaways for me was seeing the tireless dedication and “heart-work” that goes into making PJEFC a true sanctuary. Our leadership has poured so much love and effort into creating a church that serves as a welcoming home for people from all walks of life. Moreover, it’s not just about attending services but about building a community where everyone can feel they belong. This mission resonated deeply with me, especially as I feel a strong personal calling to answer the biblical mandate to care for the fatherless, orphaned and widows as stated in Psalm 68:5 and James 1:27. Jesus came for the broken.
In addition, the retreat reinforced my belief that PJEFC’s ministry of outreach is crucial in extending the love of Christ to our brothers and sisters from diverse backgrounds. We are reaching those from various “tribes and tongues,” ensuring that no one is left out, and that everyone finds a place within our spiritual family.
I am confident that our congregation is in capable hands. The leadership has crafted a six-year plan that is both thoughtful and forward-looking. Yet, as always, we remain reliant on God, who establishes our steps (Proverbs 16:9). If we continue to abide in Him, loving Him first and then our neighbours, PJEFC will continue to flourish as a vibrant community of faith and refuge. I look forward to seeing how God will lead us in the years ahead. Should you be presented with an opportunity to attend a board retreat, please accept it!
