“I DIED AT MEN’S RETREAT AND AM MORE ALIVE NOW”

By Jack Chan

I thank God that I was able to participate in the 3D/2N Men’s Breakthrough Weekend held in Bangi on September 23-25, 2022. There were 35 participants, with William Tan at 77 years as the oldest. God bless his heart.

I was blessed to hear God’s word from our speakers, Daniel Yeoh and Kum Fatt, who taught us on Intersecting the Word of God and The Leading of the Holy Spirit. On the second day, they shared on Discipleship and Sexual Temptation. We were introduced to two main characters – SAM and PAM – who  are the signs or red flags that we men have to watch out for in our journey with God. As Matt 26:41 says, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

I was also blessed to learn from Dato’ George Ting who shared his experience on keeping integrity and standing firm against corruption. Dato’ George shared story after story on how he sought God for direction and advice from fellow brothers in Christ to overcome the challenges in his business and life. Glory to His Name!!!

One activity that had a big impact on me happened on the last day of the retreat. Rev. Dicky led us in a time of prayer and we had to lie on the floor face down and stretched out like Jesus did when He died on the cross. We remained in this position for 5 minutes to symbolise dying to ourselves as our sins have been taken away. As we lay on the floor, we prayed over all that we had learned at the retreat, recalling too the letter we had written to God and the Holy Spirit… our desires, our commitment to our spouses and children and our confessions to God. This was truly a wonderful experience for me.

Lastly, I wish to thank our facilitators – Kum Fatt, Lai Yuen, Ps. James, Wong Heng and SK Wong who took time to listen to us and allow us to share freely about our spiritual and physical life, our desires, our worries, our emotional needs, and seeking God’s direction as we surrender our lives through repentance in the presence of the Holy Spirit.

In Romans 12:1-2… I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

My grateful thanks to the organising committee – Kum Fatt, Rev. Dicky, Pastor James, Deacon Johnny and Pastor Yu Yong. Not forgetting our two anointed worship leaders, Nathaniel Soon and Justin Anand, for the beautiful experience of Spirit-led worship.

I humbly pray for all my fellow brothers that we will continue to be transformed and experience a spiritual breakthrough in our walk with God. We are freed from the bondage of sins, renewed by His love, and given the opportunity to change the course of our lives. Glory to His Name. AMEN!
