A TASTE OF WORKING LIFE

By Samuel Chan

I started my internship in PJEFC on Aug. 5, 2025, after much thought and persuasion by the past interns, Jadon and Kayden. Before stepping into the office, I was prepared for the worst scenario, i.e. a lot of work. Instead of a lot of work, I got a warm welcome (relief… smile).

My first task was to find out “What is TORAH?” After much research, watching many videos and scouring many websites, I now know it refers to the LAW. I also had to read a book about grace – an important Christian doctrine – and know the true importance of “MAY THE GRACE OF OUR LORD BE WITH YOU”.

Besides expanding my knowledge of the Bible, I gained experience from doing mundane but important office work, such as cutting and laminating to doing data entry and documentation for an event. Joining the mission outreach to underprivileged children with the CUG (college and university group) ministry opened my eyes to the needs of the needy. Seeing the children playing games, working together and saying “Thank you” when receiving prizes brought great joy to me.

My public speaking skill has improved, thanks to Pastor Yu Yong who gave me the opportunity to read the Bible passage for his sermon and when we (the interns) helped run the CF. I want to thank Pastor Priscilla for involving me in the ministry. The Wonder Weekend special children’s programme was tough but overall, I learned to be gracious and patient.

Above all, I’ve learned how to balance my priorities and responsibilities. This short two-month internship gave me a taste of working life. I really appreciate the church for giving me this opportunity to serve God and to help in the events.
