At the end of February, the Ascend team went to MBS in Rawang for our annual retreat. Sometimes ‘retreats’ can actually be packed with activities, becoming more like a planning meeting instead. This one, however, truly lived up to its name!
I shall use 3Rs to summarise the experience from the weekend: Restful, Relevant, and Relationships.
Restful: Over 3 days, we had well-spaced out sessions with ample breaks in between. As such, we enjoyed our meals, played games, and for some, got much needed sleep. Amidst our busy lives, rest was exactly what we needed.
Relevant: In Mark, we are called to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind.” Based on this, we had 4 sessions focused on Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength. The sessions were engaging and informative. Each speaker used different activities to involve the audience, from a group discussion to a panel session and even a debate! Content shared was very relevant to the ministry and addressed the challenges faced by the team.
Relationships: Because we had time to spend with each other during the breaks, I believe stronger relationships were built among the Ascend members. We had several newer faces and family members too, so it was nice getting to know them better. Mealtimes were perfect for this purpose because there was no rush and we sat with different people at each meal, thus allowing us time to chat.
We had a blessed time overall, and we look forward to serving with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
