Synopsis
First and 2 Kings were originally a single scroll about the kings that came after David beginning with Solomon and ending with the nation of Judah going into exile in Babylon. The key characters in the book include the God of Israel, various kings and prophets, and occasionally a number of foreigners. 1 Kings is the first part of the story of how Israel under its monarchy tried to live as the people of God in the Promised Land and how God dealt with the people’s success and failure.
