“DO NOT SLEEP NOW OR YOU WILL DIE”

By Annie Lim

Question 2: As an omnipotent and all powerful God, He created everything in this world (Gen 1:1) and nature declares the glory of God (Psalm 19:1). Share with the group one experience in your life when you really experienced the power of God in your life e.g. healing, discovery, the complexity of creation, etc.

Question 3: God’s omniscience means that He is all-knowing, possessing complete and perfect knowledge of all things; past, present, and future. Isaiah 46:9-10 declares: “Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.’ “

However, why would such a powerful and all-knowing God care for someone so small and insignificant like you and me?

Question 4: Lastly, God is omnipresent. He is all present meaning His presence is everywhere at all times. This is comforting as we know that His presence is always with us. However, even with this knowledge, why do we still struggle with deliberately committing sin?

Questions extracted from Bible Study material on Creed Series 1: What Christians Believe and Why? GOD

Looking at Q2, 3 and 4 of this week’s Bible Study, I would like to share my experience of:

  • The Omnipotent (All Powerful) God
  • The Omniscient (All Knowing) God
  • The Omnipresent (All Present) God

One night about 13 years ago, I was feeling very exhausted with blurry vision, and I could only see what was directly in front of me and my surrounding vision looked ‘white’. I only wanted to sleep and rest for the night!

Upon taking a few steps into my bedroom, a male voice spoke into my ear, clearly saying, “Do not sleep now or you will die”. I was shocked, but I understood what I was told ‘Not to Do’! The physical state I was in at that moment made it an uphill task not to fall asleep. My husband was not home, and only my young teenage son was home with me that night. I told him what I heard and he lovingly sat on the bed with me, chatting to keep me awake. We sang praise songs and read the Bible. I couldn’t remember how long I lasted sitting up trying not to fall asleep.

The next day, I was feeling rather exhausted/weak (not sure what was wrong) and when I finally got to the clinic, the doctor, upon checking my blood pressure, exclaimed, “Mine, you could have died last night!”

Dear brothers and sisters, that experience is evidence that my God is:

  • The Omnipotent God – for He kept me alive, when I should have died!
  • The Omniscient God – for He knew what I didn’t even know, nor understood.
  • The Omnipresent God – for He was and is with me. Who am I, that He even bothers to care for me. He came to warn me not to sleep at that critical moment in time!

Truly all thanks, praise and glory be to my Almighty God!
